Health and Dental Registration Delay

Oct 30, 2023 | Services

The Registration Period for the extended health and dental plan faced a delay, fall 2023.

The extended health and dental plan is mandatorily applied to all students taking six or more credits or whose trades/vocational training is 24 weeks or longer.

This coverage comes with a $275 fee, which was included in tuition payment to North Island College. This fee is for one full year of coverage, with coverage ending August 31, 2024.

Learn more about the plan including coverage details on the health and dental page.

Registration Period

Each year there is a registration period.

During this time eligible students are covered by the plan though the plan has no online access, direct billing or ability to submit claims.

When registration ends, covered students can make claims for eligible services received during the registration period.

After the registration period, students can enrol with

AGA Benefits and Green Shield Canada (GSC)

With the online GSC account students can:

* Submit claims electronically

* Sign up for direct deposit (to get paid faster)

* Read the full benefits booklet

* Access GSC Everywhere app, with digital coverage card, available for all smart devices

* Search for local providers & more

Unfortunately, there was a delay in the end of the Registration Period.

Typically expected to end October 30, the anticipated end of Registration was delayed until November 6.

Our apologies for the frustration and inconvenience of this delay.

Eligible costs incurred between September 1 – November 6 will be eligible for reimbursement after the Registration Period ends.

Covered students will receive an email from Student Health BC when the registration period is complete.

Once that email has been received,  online AGA Benefits and Green Shield Canada accounts can be made. Instructions will be in the email for these steps.

The email from Student Health BC will include information about adding family to the extended health and dental plan.

Students have until November 30 to add eligible family to their plan.

Students can add a spouse, including common-law and dependant children.

Unfortunately, no parents or siblings can be added to the plan.

To add one person, $275

To add two or more people, $480.

Payment will be by credit card. If this is a barrier, contact us at healthanddental@nisu.ca to arrange e-transfer or cash payment instead.

Again, apologies for this delay.

We will update via website & social media when the plan is available.
