NISU is hiring for two positions; Organiser - Operations & Administrator

North Island Students’ Union is a non-profit organisation representing 5,000 full time students at North Island College. The Students’ Union is run by a Board of Directors made up of elected students, and its operations include advocacy, services provision, and community connections. The Students’ Union is seeking an Organiser – Operations.

The position would report to the Executive Director and the Staff Relations Officer of the Students’ Union and work closely with Union office staff & Board of Directors to support the execution of food services, community connections, and other functions of the Students’ Union. This position will work at both Courtenay & Port Alberni campuses and will require travel to either campus.

Permanent position: December 18, 2023, after successful 90 day probation

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, starting wage scale, $22 – 26

North Island Students’ Union is entering into to food services, running cafeterias in Courtenay & Port Alberni. These operations will have staff teams and the Organiser – Operations will lead these teams to deliver high quality, low cost, reliable food services at each location. The Organiser – Operations will have the opportunity to contribute to menu design and implementation and will be responsible for procurement & asset management. The Organiser – Operations will report to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and will lead the staff teams at both locations. A friendly demeanour, enthusiasm and genuine interest in helping others are important attributes for the job of the Organiser – Operations. Responsibilities will entail regular interaction with members, public and the campus community. Verbal, interpersonal and organisational communication skills are critical in leading food services staff and operations, of NISU Eats. Other duties include assisting events planning and execution.

The Organiser will work in coalition with the Board to deliver social and political events of the Union, as they relate to NISU Eats spaces.

The Organiser – Operations shall have the following qualifications:

  • Oversee day to day operations of the Union’s food services department, NISU Eats.
  • Manage student staff.
  • Manage regular staff.
  • Aid in the organising of social & political events of the Union held at NISU Eats locations.
  • Assist with the creation and distribution of service materials.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and conferences, as may be required, including some evenings & weekends.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and supervision.
  • Assist with general office duties, including, but not limited to filing, photocopying, answering telephones, etc.
  • Organisational communication using Discord, social media, and website.
  • Preference for North Island College alumni

Salary: $22.00-$26.00 per hour

The Students’ Union is seeking an Administrator.

The position would report to the Executive Director and the Staff Relations Officer of the Students’ Union and work closely with Union office staff & Board of Directors to support the execution of services, community connections, advocacy & campaigns and other functions of the Students’ Union. This position can work in either Campbell River or Courtenay campuses and may at times require travel to either campus.

Permanent position: December 18, 2023 after successful 90 day probation, on going

Hours of work: Up to 15 hours per week, starting wage scale, $22 – 25

Capabilities:

A friendly demeanour, enthusiasm and genuine interest in helping others are important attributes for the job of the Administrator. Responsibilities will entail regular interaction with members, public and the campus community. Verbal, interpersonal and organisational communication skills are critical in supporting advanced office duties such as scheduling, event preparation, invoicing and tracking.

The Administrator shall have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years’ previous work experience work in the not-for-profit sector and/or membership-based organization and/or;
  • A certificate/diploma/degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong verbal, written, interpersonal & organisational communication skills
  • Experience producing reports, making presentations and undertaking advanced office administration functions.
  • Experience with computer word-processing, spreadsheet, and graphic design software (knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud & either Excel or Numbers, an asset)
  • Commitment to a high standard of administrative skills
  • Able to treat all individuals fairly & with respect, at all times.
  • Ability to work both independently and under supervision
  • Preference to North Island College Alumni
